An introduction to the volume point of control indicator for Tradestation Securities

An introduction to the volume point of control indicator for Tradestation Securities. The Quantum VPOC indicator for Tradestation has been developed to expand the two dimensional study of volume and price, to a three dimensional one which embraces time. The volume/price/time relationship then provides real insight to the inner workings of the market and also gives us a unique alternative perspective of support and resistance based on volume.

Whilst the Quantum tick volumes indicator considers the relationship between a single volume bar and its associated candle or groups of candles and volume bars on the X axis of the chart, the Quantum volume point of control indicator for Tradestation analyses the density and intensity of volume over time against price. In other words the volume price relationship on the y axis.

This offers an entirely different perspective of support and resistance and based on volume rather than the more conventional price and is based on the concepts and ideas of market profile. Put simply, where deep concentrations of volume appear on the chart, these are key areas where price is likely to congest once more. We call these high volume nodes. Alternatively where volumes are thin price is unlikely to pause here and instead move swiftly through such regions. These we refer to as low volume nodes.

Finally the volume point of control itself defines the fulcrum, where the deepest volume has been created, and where the market has paused for the longest period. Here the market has found price agreement. In other words bullish and bearish sentiment are in balance. Once an imbalance in bearish or bullish sentiment prevails, then a trend is likely to be re-established relatively quickly.

The VPOC indicator presents two key pieces of data to help you as a trader. First with the volume histogram of highs and lows, and second the volume point of control itself.

From a trading perspective the volume profile signals whether the market is likely to pause or move swiftly through such regions. Where volume is low at a low volume node, the market is likely to move swiftly through such regions. Where volume is high at a high volume node, the market is likely to pause and move into congestion. Both important pieces of information which will allow you to anticipate price action in advance and so be prepared.

The Quantum VPOC indicator works perfectly with other Quantum Trading indicators. Combining it with the price oriented Quantum Dynamic Support and Resistance indicator and the innovative Quantum Tick Volumes indicator gives you a SOLID and POWERFUL suite of technical analysis tool.
